2. Follow us on Twitter.

3. Leave us a comment about why you want to win this giveaway!

That’s all! And, you could earn the following:

Prize, worth $369 – Underground Cable’s Fault’s Distance Locator

This project kit determines the distance of the underground cable’s fault’s location from the base station in kilometers. In many urban areas, it is very difficult to trace exact fault’s location especially during repairing process – hence, this system overcomes this difficult by finding the exact location of the fault.

This system is based on simple Ohms Law concept wherein current passing through a cable with a fixed resistance depends on the voltage applied to it. Thus, the fault’s current varies depending on the location of the fault when a DC voltage is applied at the feeder end through a fixed resistor.

If any short circuit (Line to Ground) takes place in the cable, the voltage across the series resistors connected as cables changes accordingly. This change in the voltage is then fed to an ADC to develop a precise digital data, which is directed to the programmed microcontroller. The microcontroller which is of 8051 family displays the fault’s location in kilometers on the LCD display.

This kit is assembled with a set of switches for creating faults, and a set of resistors for representing cable length in km. If any of the buttons present on this kit is pressed, then the respective phase at a particular distance of the fault’s location will be displayed on the LCD, which is interfaced to the microcontroller.

DIY Kit Details:

Edgefx kits provides a DIY (Do It Yourself kit) for electronics and electrical students. These kits comprise all the components and devices associated with the kit along with the programming codes and guidelines. By using these kits students can easily assemble the project on their own. This helps to increase their applied knowledge and also raises their confidence in handling practical electronics projects.

This cable’s fault’s location detector helps you to understand an underground cable system of electric power transmission by power companies, and also enables you to build this system practically with this DIY kit.

So, hurry up! and make your mark in the Edgefx giveaway – you could be the winner!
