Compared to the electronic projects, electrical projects require more power and are costly. Electrical engineering projects include many aspects like controlling of motors, home appliances, power plant management, etc, whereas electronic projects deal with various electronic devices and communication equipments. But in actual terms, there is no distinction between electrical or electronic projects as both works equally better for large system designs. This particular article highlights some of the Engineering Projects for both electronic and electrical students.
Electronic Projects
1. Android Based Electronic Notice Board with a Remote Control
Many of the information display systems use Notice boards to display essential information, particularly in public places like railway stations, bus stands, airports, shopping malls, hospitals, etc. The concerned project is intended to reduce the tiring efforts of updating information in the notice board regularly, owing to frequent notice changes, and thus makes the system simple with android phone. Therefore, to overcome the shortcomings of the prevailing systems, the following project is designed in such a way that it can be operated by an Android device like smart phone, tablet, etc.
In this system, the power supply from the mains is stepped down, rectified, filtered and regulated to a circuit range level, which drives the entire circuit. A Bluetooth modem that sends the signals received from the Android phone is interfaced with the microcontroller.
When a person sends a message from the Android device, the Bluetooth device sends that information to the microcontroller unit, and then the information is displayed in the LCD display. Therefore, a user can change or modify the required information to be displayed ‘n’ number of times, and by doing so, one can control the electronic display remotely through an Android mobile.
2. Arduino Based Under Ground Cable Fault Detection
In urban areas, the underground cable’s fault is a common problem, and therefore, without the knowledge of the exact location of the cable’s fault, the repairing process becomes very difficult. This project is implemented to overcome the above problem and to detect the exact location of the underground cable’s fault. In this project, a cable length in kilometers is represented with a series of resistors, and the fault is created with a set of switches.
In this system, a switch operates in three phases. With respect to neutral or phase to phase operations the relays enable so that the voltage corresponding to that point is applied to Arduino board. The Arduino microcontroller compares this voltage drop with the predefined voltage drop in terms of Km in its program and displays the fault in Km.
A set of relays continuously scans for the fault, and if finds no fault then no voltage is applied to the Arduino board. The voltage drops and it is converted into digital by an inbuilt ADC in the Arduino board. The set of relays are driven by a relay driver that receives the command signals from the Arduino board.

Electrical Projects
1. Industrial Temperature Controller
Most of the industrial processes depend on temperature variations, so prescribed limits of temperatures are kept for the desired operations. This project describes the concept of switching the load for certain minimum and maximum temperature levels.
By using this project, we can control the temperature of any device. A temperature sensor detects the surrounding temperature and sends the signal corresponding to it to the microcontroller. This project allows its user to change the minimum and maximum values of temperature by switches associated with it. The microcontroller then sends these user-defined temperature settings to the EEPROM, which stores this data.
When the temperature exceeds these limits, the microcontroller sends the control signals to the transistor such that the relay gets energized. When the relay turns on, it switches off the load automatically. In this way, the loads can be operated by the temperature limits.
2. Induction Motor Protection System
Owing to the robust making, efficiency and high-performance, more than 80 percent of the industrial motors are induction motors. Protection of these motors is necessary for their continuous and safe operation of the loads. This project is intended to achieve the protective parameters of these motors against single phasing and temperature.
This project is implemented in such a way that when any of the three phases is out from the supply, the circuit recognizes and stops the motor by disconnecting the remaining phases. If this operation is not performed, then the motor runs at higher speed that increases the temperature and leads to burning of motor’s winding.
For a three-phase arrangement, three transformers are taken and rectified, and then given to the comparators. The comparators thus continuously monitor the signals and accordingly switch the relays. If a single phasing takes place, the motor stops automatically because one of the four relays’ tripping causes tripping of all the relays. Such an arrangement is done by placing all the relays in an order.
This system also has a temperature sensor that continuously senses the temperature of the motor. As the temperature increases beyond a certain limit, then the motor gets switched off automatically. In this project, for indication purpose, the motor’s load is replaced with the light loads in a three phase arrangement.
